Daniel outside of work
Hi I’m Daniel!
I think it’s always important know a little bit about someone before you meet them. So here are some fun facts about me!
- My birthday is 1/4/1993 (a lot of people think it is very fitting that I am an April Fool)
- I have been working as an Occupational Therapist since 2016
- I love sports and have played football & basketball for the last 25 years
- I have travelled to 50 different countries and hope to see many more
- I am a professional videographer and was paid to travel around Europe to film for a company overseas, I mainly film weddings and festivals nowadays
- I love board games and enjoy playing video games every so often (mainly Mario, but also some games on my Ps5)
- I have ADHD and have always gravitated towards building friendships with other neurodiverse people. I am super energetic and most people say that I am the human form of a golden retriever (I take that as a compliment)
- I have a beautiful labradoodle called Lucy who I am hoping to train up to be a therapy dog in the future
- I am soon to be married to my Fiancé Maddie and the wedding is in April 2024, which is exciting, but very busy.
Daniel as an Occupational Therapist
I graduated with a Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University of South Australia in 2015. Since then, I have worked in both private and community practices, which has helped me to see a large variety of approaches to therapy.
Throughout my time as a therapist, I have supported over 200 families through a variety of different approaches.
In 2021 I was diagnosed with ADHD and this explains a lot about my approach to therapy. I have found that I can relate to a lot of the clients I work with and utilise a neurodivergent affirming approach with my ongoing supports. My goal is to provide a holistic approach to supporting all the families I work with. Working directly with clients, supporting parents/carers/teachers through ongoing educational support and making the appropriate environmental changes to support my clients to become as successful as they can be.
I like to promote neurodiversity as a superpower. However, as Uncle Ben said in Spider-man, ‘with great power, comes great responsibility’. I work on using people’s interests to motivate them to develop skills and modify/adapt their environment to be the happiest they can be, whilst achieving their own goals.
The holistic approach to therapy
Holistic therapy is an approach that focuses on the whole person. It takes into account the connection between the mind, body, and spirit and aims to promote overall health and wellness by support and managing all aspects of a person's life.
In the current format of healthcare, there is a priority on efficiency and making money, rather than focusing on the overall outcomes of the client. Therapy is often reliant on a one hour therapy session weekly, without considering the other 167 hours outside of therapy.
The goal of KATS is to prioritise coaching, training and support of those supporting our clients, so that they can achieve therapeutic outcomes throughout the whole week.
Resource Library
At KATS we are currently in the process of creating a resource library that all clients can access, so that the clients are less reliant on the therapist for all answers and can access the appropriate resources to support them in the future!
Education workshops
At KATS we are currently in the process of creating regular education workshops to support parents, teachers, carers and other important people working with a person with a disability.
KATS & Dogs
We are in the process of training out beautiful labradoodle Lucy so that she can join us during therapy sessions. During Animal Assisted Therapy, the human-animal bond can help build a calming state and can increase client engagement.
